Once again, I find myself wanting to ‘write’ something on a favorite artist, then I stumble across someone who has written a great story so kudos to Jessica with the following story (at the link). I, on the other hand am not in the ‘Journalism’ trade, nor have some ‘connection’ to the music industry. I first came across Hush via my Myspace, around 5 years ago now and absolutely loved his music. Being that I have so many favorite bands, solo artists and genre’s of, as well it would be near impossible to research every one of them in depth. Part of what I had found out a few years ago now is that he does a great deal for abandoned / stray dogs (including ‘Detroit Dog Rescue’) The number of these dogs; simply astronomical in his area.. When it’s bugging you ‘no end’… you remember part, if not all of a song, you can hum or sing it… but ‘What’s that damn song’!! You can let it go, forget about it entirely, then it comes back to haunt you.. sound familiar? At this website are some great lyric links, all of which I’ve tried at some point that are very reliable. Music is great, but it can also drive you nuts at times! Since their discovery over 50 years ago, the Earth’s Van Allen radiation belts have been considered to consist of two distinct zones of trapped, highly energetic charged particles. Observations from NASA’s Van Allen Probes reveal an isolated third ring in the outer radiation belt.

After most NASA science spacecraft launches, researchers wait patiently for months as instruments on board are turned on one at a time, slowly ramped up to full power, and tested to make sure they work at full capacity. It’s a rite of passage for any new satellite in space, and such a schedule was in place for the Van Allen Probes when they launched on Aug. 30, 2012, to study two giant belts of radiation that surround Earth.

But a group of scientists on the mission made a case for changing the plan. They asked that the Relativistic Electron Proton Telescope (REPT) be turned on early – just three days after launch — in order that its observations would overlap with another mission called SAMPEX (Solar, Anomalous, and Magnetospheric Particle Explorer), that was soon going to de-orbit and re-enter Earth’s atmosphere.

It was a lucky decision. Shortly before REPT turned on, solar activity on the sun had sent energy toward Earth that caused the radiation belts to swell. Continue Reading at the link, includes videos and more»

Our solar system consists of the sun, eight planets, moons, many dwarf planets or plutoids: the discovery of Eris in 2005, and similar in size to Pluto caused scientists to reconsider the definition of a planet, an asteroid belt, comets, meteors, and others. The sun is the center of our solar system; the planets, their moons, a belt of asteroids, comets, and other rocks and gas orbit the sun.

The planet count in our solar system has gone as high as 15 before new discoveries prompted a fine tuning of the definition of a planet. The most recent change was in 2006 when scientists reclassified Pluto as a new kind of object – a dwarf planet. (NASA)

The eight planets that orbit the sun are (in order from the sun): Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Another large body is Pluto, now classified as a dwarf planet or plutoid. A belt of asteroids (minor planets made of rock and metal) lies between Mars and Jupiter. These objects all orbit the sun in roughly circular orbits that lie in the same plane, the ecliptic (Pluto is an exception; it has an elliptical orbit tilted over 17° from the ecliptic).

Easy ways to remember the order of the planets (plus Pluto) are mnemonics: “My Very Easy Method Just Simplifies Us Naming Planets” The first letter of each of these words represents a planet – in the correct order.

The largest planet is Jupiter. It is followed by Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, and finally, tiny Pluto (the largest of the dwarf planets).
